Ah, good. You’re back. Oh. You haven’t been here before? Well, that’s OK. Welcome. Welcome to my blog. Do come in. Take a virtual chair and warm yourself by the fire or grab an ice cream from the freezer. Or both.

My name is Kate, not Wally. Really. I’m sorry it’s not clear – it’s a muddled blog. Who is this Wally, and what exactly will they wonder? If you stick with this blog you might discover that story, among others. In the meantime here are a few snippets about me:

I’m Australian with English and Irish ancestry. At school I was an all-round average student and closet nerd. I learned to touch type at school on a manual typewriter, students early to class got an electric typewriter, the first one got the computer.

I have a science degree but have worked solely in the retail industry. I’m fascinated by genealogy, etymology and archaeology. I love old books, but tend not to read them. I’m a collector of nothing more specific than things I like. I frequent markets and love bric-a-brac and knick-knacks. I’m overly sentimental and have been known to buy objects because I feel sorry for them.

I’m a slow reader and poorly read. I’m a slow writer and poorly written. I know you understand. In my teens, I handwrote two novels. They were awful. I’m writing a book now, I’m hoping for some improvement.

I feel about 28 years of age, but I’m chronologically older. I’m told this discrepancy, once experienced, is permanent.

I’m indecisive. I self-doubt and procrastinate but consider myself a positive person. I believe in kindness. Contentment is my favourite form of happiness. I like people to say what they mean.

I love all animals, particularly those that are furry with four legs, not minutely furry with eight. Dogs are among my favourite people. My favourite colour is a deep forest green, but if people were colours, I think I’d be denim blue. I can cook, but not well and if I’m going to try something new, it’s usually dessert.

I have a wonderful, patient, clever and understanding husband who communicates with me remarkably well using only his eyebrows. He’s my best friend. We have the best conversations.

This blog is therapy and writing practice, it will largely contain my musings and writing development. I’ll try not to go on about it. Please be gentle.
