About

Ah, good. You’re back. Oh. You haven’t been here before? Well, that’s OK. Welcome. Welcome to my blog. Do come in. Take a virtual chair and warm yourself by the fire or grab an ice cream from the freezer. Or both.

My name is Kate, not Wally. Really. I’m sorry it’s not clear – it’s a muddled blog. Who is this Wally, and what exactly will they wonder? If you stick with this blog you might discover that story, among others. In the meantime here are a few snippets about me:

I’m Australian with English and Irish ancestry. At school I was an all-round average student and closet nerd. I learned to touch type at school on a manual typewriter, students early to class got an electric typewriter, the first one got the computer.

I have a science degree but have worked solely in the retail industry. I’m fascinated by genealogy, etymology and archaeology. I love old books, but tend not to read them. I’m a collector of nothing more specific than things I like. I frequent markets and love bric-a-brac and knick-knacks. I’m overly sentimental and have been known to buy objects because I feel sorry for them.

I’m a slow reader and poorly read. I’m a slow writer and poorly written. I know you understand.Β In my teens, I handwrote two novels. They were awful. I’m writing a book now, I’m hoping for some improvement.

I feel about 28 years of age, but I’m chronologically older. I’m told this discrepancy, once experienced, is permanent.

I’m indecisive. I self-doubt and procrastinate but consider myself a positive person. I believe in kindness. Contentment is my favourite form of happiness. I like people to say what they mean.

I love all animals, particularly those that are furry with four legs, not minutely furry with eight. Dogs are among my favourite people. My favourite colour is a deep forest green, but if people were colours, I think I’d be denim blue. I can cook, but not well and if I’m going to try something new, it’s usually dessert.

I have a wonderful, patient, clever and understanding husband who communicates with me remarkably well using only his eyebrows. He’s my best friend. We have the best conversations.

This blog is therapy and writing practice, it will largely contain my musings and writing development. I’ll try not to go on about it. Please be gentle.

Thank you for your time.

Do come back.

  1. What a warm and engaging ‘About’ page. You sound like a lovely, gentle person, and my husband’s pretty good at talking with his eyebrows too. Maybe they’re related! πŸ™‚

  2. Thanks for stopping by my blog, projectworkingtitle.com. I’m also fairly new at this but am really enjoying it. It is nice to virtually get to know people with similar interests. Good luck and happy bloggin.

  3. Thanks so much for checking out my blog. I love your honest, vulnerable humility, Kate. Blogging is such an adventure – you really never know what or who your post will stir. I wish you the very best and I will be popping in to see how you’re doing. Be yourself and enjoy the ride!

    • Thank you for your comment and your kind words. I really enjoy blogging, but I must try not to over think it so much! Happy blogging to you too, please do call again. πŸ™‚

  4. Hello! And thank you. I’m still ‘on the road’, as they say trying to catch up on messages people have left (that part isn’t going so well and might have to wait until I’m home!). Thanks for stopping by.

  6. Love this. You paint great pictured with the little things.
My dad used to convey lots with his eyebrows. I’ve yet to see anyone else’s climb higher than his could. πŸ˜‰
Looking forward to following your blog.

  8. Such intriguing writing! So captivating.
When I’m reading for pleasure, the voice that’s reading to me inside my head is usually British. This is something I’ve only just realized. Regardless, when you put, “do come in” I read that in my British head voice, and an entire image of a cozy British cottage came to mind. Area rug, throw blankets docked on high-back chairs, a bowl of popcorn on the wooden coffee table, and a nice mug of cocoa. I definitely want to come in and sit for a while. Read a book next to you, or just talk about our musings!
Thanks for writing so friendly. I look forward to meeting you more frequently in the blogwoods!

    • Thanks, Morgan! Lovely to meet you via your blog. Good luck navigating the blogwoods – my house is the cottage in the southern part of the forest. It features floor rugs, throw rugs on chairs and currently a bowl of pinecones on the wooden coffee table. Look forward to you calling again.
      Happy blogging. πŸ™‚
